"April 20, 1940

Funeral services for Charles Howard Zwanziger of Horton, who died at his home Saturday night, will be this Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Kaiser funeral home and at 2:30 from the Methodist church in Plainfield. Rev. Earl Hodgkin will officiate, assisted by Rev. Edgar Walker, Jr., and burial will be in the Horton cemetery. Music will be furnished, by the Rev. Mr. Walker and Mrs. J. H. Mason.

Casket bearers will be Roland Shadbolt, Emery Potter, Ernest Briggs, Guy Liddle, Herman Konarske and William Hoppenworth.

Two years ago Mr. Zwanziger began failing in health with a heart ailment and had been confined to his bed the last five and one-half month, two weeks of this time being spent at the Waverly hospital and the remainder at his home. During this time all was done that loving hands could do but he passed away Saturday evening at 11:20 o'clock, at the age of 60 years, four months and 12 days.

He was born Dec. 8, 1879 in Douglas township, the son of George and Mary Zwanziger. He attended the rural schools and grew to manhood in that community and in 1903 was married to Luella Lemon. They began housekeeping on a farm west of Horton.

To them were born four children, James B., Mildred Mae who is now Mrs. Glen White, Jennie Berneta and Paul Howard. He was preceded in death in 1920 by Jennie Berneta who was eight years old and in 1938 by a grandchild, Donna Mae White. Surviving in addition to his wife and three children are five grandchildren, Leonard, Amy Lou and Roger White, Joan and Jane Zwanziger; two brothers, Dave of Huron, S. D., and George of Waterloo; three sisters, Alice Lange of New Hampton, Alma Wedemeier of Plainfield and Anna Lange of Nashua. A brother Frank and a sister Ida Hickok preceded him.

Mr. Zwanziger always took an active part in church and community activities and in addition to his relatives will be mourned by a very large circle of friends."
