E. J. Wylam Dies Monday

E. J. Wylam, 80, last surviving member of a pioneer Bremer county family, died Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Verne Engstrom, near Waverly.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at kaiser's funeral home. Burial will be at Horton.

Mr. Wylam was born April 18, 1872, near Waverly, the son of Jasper and Barbara Wylam. He spent his entire life in and around Waverly where he pioneered many of the present farm practices now widely in use. He was one of the first to grow soy beans and alfalfa in northeast Iowa, has been widely known as a Holstein breeder for over 40 years and has been active in the Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, and a daughter, Grace Wilson. Survivors are one son, Claude, of Waverly; and five daughters, Mrs. J. B. Boldt of Jesup, Lola Wylam of Milton, West Va.;, Mrs. William Fuller of Davenport, Mrs. Hugo Brown of Charles City and Mrs. Engstrom. A granddaughter, Mrs. Harold Sherman, of Bristow, spent her childhood in his home after the death of her mother. There are 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

In 1948 he married Lula Zwanziger who preceded him in death in December, 1950."
