James Lemon, Early Settler of Bremer County, dies at his home Friday.

James Lemon, an early settler of Bremer County died at his home in Waverly on Friday morning, December 6, 1929, of heart trouble. He got up at his usual time and did his morning activities. He sat down to breakfast, and told his grandchild, who was visiting, "Grandpa doesn't feel very good." He then collapsed. Two doctors were called and were able to revive him, but he died soon after.
James Lemon was born in Shirborn, Sumersetshire, England, July 18, 1852. When five years old, he came with his family to America, and settled in Freeport, Illinois. In 1862, the family came to Bremer County, and settle northeast of Waverly. James lived there his entire life, until retiring to Waverly, in 1906.
He was married December 25, 1877, to Miss Harriet Farnsworth. She died about sixteen years ago, and he married Mrs. Ella Beebe, his first wife's sister. The second Mrs. Lemon died about six years ago, and Mr. Lemon married Mrs. Eva Walker on December 22, 1925.
Mr. Lemon served as director of the creamery and the school board for many years. He was a life long member of the Baptist Church, first attending the Plainfield Church, and then attending the Waverly Church when he retired.
He is survived by his son, Charles of Lime Springs, and three daughters; Mrs. Howard Zwangiger of Horton, and Mrs. Walter Miller and Mrs. S. D. Norman of Waverly. He also has eleven grandchildren.
Burial was in the Plainfield Cemetery.

"Death of Mrs. James Lemon.
Nov. 15-1911

Mrs. Harriet Lucretia Farnsworth, [sic] wife of James Lemon, was born in North Thumberland, [sic] Pa., Nov 21, 1851. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1855. She was married to James Lemon Dec 25, 1877 in Bremer county. Died Nov. 15, 1911. Five children were born to them: Gracie, Charlie of Frederika, Lulu Zwanziger of Tripoli, Edith Miller of Horton and Flora Norman of Waverly. Gracie died at the age of 10. One sister, Mrs. Ben Beebe, of Dubuque, and three brothers, Isaac and Joseph of Spokane, Wash., and Frank of Fort Dodge, are left.

Mr. and Mrs. James Lemon have lived in Bremer county nearly all their lifetime, and the family is highly respected by a host of friends.

The funeral will be Friday, Nov. 17, 1911, at her late home at 12 o'clock, conducted by Rev. D. I. Coon of Washington, Iowa. Burial at Plainfield cemetery."
