Biography

Charles Hull was born 5 Aug 1791 (per calculation from tombstone) in Pennsylvania (per census). The probate of his grandfather Meshack Hull produced documentation revealing that Charles Hull was the son of Phineas Hull and the grandson of Meshack Hull. Charles was probably born in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.[1]

Charles Hull resided in Augusta Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1820.[2] Charles Hull was listed on the Augusta Northumberland County, Pennsylvania between 1813 and 1827.[3]

The request for Division of real estate of the Estate of "Mashil Hull deceased" identified Charles as one of the children of Phineas Hull as well as a grandchild of Meshack Hull. It also revealed that in February 1825, Charles and his siblings resided in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.[4]

Application being made to this Court by Charles Hull one of the heirs at law of Phenias Hull late of the County of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania dec’d and also attorney in fact of Peter Hull, Isaac Hull, Mahlon Hull, James Hull, Sarah the wife of William Shipman and Mary the wife of Harmon Shipman who are also the children and heirs of Phineas Hull deceased all of the State of Pennsylvania Stating that Mashil Hull late of the County of Hunterdon deceased, died seized of considerable real Estate Situate in the Township of Bethlehem and County of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey -- That he left issue four children viz Phineas Hull who is Since departed this life leaving issue above named, and James Hull, Mary the wife of George Wells and Rachael the wife of Philip Myers and that the said Rachael Myers hath since departed this life, leaving issue, all of whom are minors, and entitled to the share of said real estate which would be coming to their mother.

In 1828, Charles Hull moved his family to Ohio.[5][6] Charles Hull purchased land in Richland County, Ohio on 12 Jan 1828 per Deed Book 5 pp 287-288. (This became part of Morrow County, Ohio when the county was created in 1848.)[7]

Charles Hull resided Congress Township, Richland County, Ohio in 1830.[8]

On 2 Feb 1835, Charles and five of his siblings then residing in Richland County, Ohio, sold their share of the land that they inherited from their grandfather Meshack Hull's estate to their brother Isaac Hull who still lived in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.[9]

This Indenture made this second day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-five Between Charles Hull and Rebecca his wife, Mahlon Hull and Mary his wife, James Hull and Eve his wife, William Shipman and Sarah his wife late Sarah Hull and Harmon Shipman and Mary his wife late Mary Hull, all of the county of Richland and Sate of Ohio party of the first part; Isaac Hull of Shamokin Township in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania party of the Second part ...

Charles Hull resided Congress Township, Richland County, Ohio in 1840.[10]Charles Hull (age 58) resided Congress Township, Morrow County, Ohio in 1850.[11][12]Charles Hull (age 68) resided Congress Township, Morrow County, Ohio in 1860[13][14]

Charles Hull died 19 Feb 1869 or 19 Mar 1869 in Congress Township, Morrow County, Ohio. The county death record stated that he died on 19 Feb 1869 and his tombstone states that he died on 19 Mar 1869. The county death record stated that he was a farmer, age 77 and died of pneumonia.[15] He was buried in Bryn Zion Cemetery. His tombstone says: Charles Hull, died Mar 19, 1869, Aged 77 yrs, 7 mos, 14 dys.[16] [17]
