Biography

Phineas Hull was born 5 Jul 1817 in Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania (per family tradition) to Charles Hull and Rebecca Slack.

Phineas Hull and Elizabeth Teeple were married on 19 Sep 1843 in Richland County, Ohio.[1]

The family moved to St. Mary's Township, Adams County, Indiana before their children were born. The couple with children were listed in the census in St. Mary's Township, Adams County, Indiana in 1850, 1860 and 1870. Widow Elizabeth resided there with children in 1880. The census is consistent in stating that Phineas was born in Pennsylvania, Elizabeth was born in Ohio and the children were all born in Indiana. In 1850, Phineas (32) and Elizabeth (26) Hull resided with children Clark (4), Carey (3), Steward (2) and Martha A (9 months).[2]

In 1860, Phineas (42) and Elizabeth (36) Hull resided with children Carey (13), Steward (12), Mary (8), Elizabeth (7), Ira (5) and Rebecca (7 months).[3]

In 1870, Phineas (53) and Elizabeth (46) Hull resided with children Mary (18), Elizabeth (17), Ira (15), Rebecca (10), Bradford (8), Sarah (4) and her mother Sarah Teeple (age 67, born in Ohio).[4]

Phineas Hull died 17 Apr 1878 and was buried in Mount Tabor Cemetery, Decatur, Adams County, Indiana. His tombstone is difficult to read, but includes Phineas Hull, Apr 1878.[5]

Notes and Clues

Charles Hull (father of Phineas) resided in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1820 and was in Congress Township, Richland County, Ohio in 1830.

Congress township in Richland County Ohio became part of Morrow County, Ohio in 1848. Morrow County, Ohio was formed February 24, 1848, from parts of Richland, Knox, Marion, and Delaware counties. A township maps shows townships and identifies original county origins.[6]

A World Connect Project tree says that the tombstone for Phineas Hull says he died 17 April 1878 at age 60y 9m 12d.[7]

Biography

Elizabeth Teeple was born 21 Sep 1823 in Ohio (per census and tombstone) to John and Sarah Teeple.

In 1880, widowed Elizabeth (56) Hull resided with daughters Rebecca (20) and Sarah (14) and with her son Bradford (19) and his wife Susanna (27).[5]

Elizabeth Hull died 26 Mar 1881 and was buried in Mount Tabor Cemetery, Decatur, Adams County, Indiana. Her tombstone says: Elizabeth wife of P. Hull, Died Mar 26 1881, aged 57 y, 6m, 5d.[6]

Notes and Clues

The parents of Elizabeth Teeple were John Teeple and Sarah Bailey per ancestry death certificate of her brother John E Teeple (1831-1909) were died in Adams County, Indiana. Her parents John Teeple (1795-1860) and Sarah Teeple (1812-1871) were both buried in Old Mount Tabor Cemetery, Rivare, Adams County, Indiana.

The findagrave page for her brother John E Teeple (1831-1909) says that he was born in Morrow County, Ohio and his family moved to Adams County, Indiana when he was about 13 (about 1844).

Morrow County, Ohio was created in 1848 from four neighboring counties.[7]

Morrow County, Ohio was formed February 24, 1848, from parts of Richland, Knox, Marion, and Delaware counties. A township maps shows townships and identifies original county origins.[8]

The 1830 census looks like John Teeples resided in Congress Township, Richland County, Ohio. The ancestry image says page 75 is titled Plymouth Township, Richland County, but the bottom of the page (where John Teeples is listed) is the beginning of Congress Township. Charles Hull is listed on page 76 which is Congress Township.

So Elizabeth Teeple was probably born in Congress Township, Richland County, Ohio which is now in Congress Township, Morrow County, Ohio.
