With deepest sorrow report is made of the death of Mrs. Matilda S. Dieffenbacher, formerly a resident of Clarion for many years, buy [sic] recently making her home with her daughter, Mrs. A J. Reinhart, of Canton, 0., where her death occurred Monday, August 27, 1928, due to complications combined with old age, being past 94 years old. Mrs. Dieffenbacher was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Farnsworth and was born in Lycoming County, Pa., March 17, 1834. She was united in marriage with Charles L. Dieffenbacher in 1856, and they journeyed together until 1888 when Mr. Dieffenbacher died. Following their marriage, they removed to Butler, Mr. Dieffenbacher then being a practicing dentist -D. D. S. In 1875 they removed to, and established their home in Clarion. Mr. Dieffenbacher adopted merchandising as his business and conducted a store located where the Ditz and Mooney Hdwe. Co. store is now located, Mrs. Dieffenbacher ever being his intelligent and faithful helpmate. She was one of the brightest, most intelligent and attractive personalities in the town and held a place of high esteem among all the people. When, in 1884, they sold their store they removed to a farm near Callensburg where they lived until her husband passed over to the other side. Mrs. Dieffenbacher then came back to Clarion and lived here until in recent years she went to live with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Reinhart. The deceased was a splendid Christian lady, and her life was moulded and directed by the highest Christian ideals. She always identified herself with the Christian people wherever she lived. When living in Butler, the church of her choice not being represented, she and her husband affiliated with the Presbyterian church. When in Clarion she identified herself with the First Baptist church, in which she was active in working for all its interests, spiritual and temporal. Personally and physically Mrs. Dieffenbacher was a most admirable personality-unselfish and kindly towards all, always helpful and active in neighborly good deeds, and generous in thought and deed. She was fortunate in enjoying the physical power to always go and do as native impulses for good prompted. Thus she not only endeared herself to her immediate family, but to the community at large. Mrs. Dieffenbacher is survived by the following children: Mrs. Inez Fox, Phoenix, Ariz.; O. F. Dieffenbacher, Clarion; Lloyd E. Dieffenbacher, Erie, Pa.; and Mrs. A. J. Reinhart, Canton, 0.; and by grandchildren namely: Walter Fox, Grove City; Mrs. Frank Fairman, McKean Co.; Fred Fox, W. Va.; Mrs. J. C. Smith, Phoenix, Ariz.; Robert and Arthur Dieffenbacher, Erie; Ralph Reinhart, Canton, 0.; and Charles C. and Frank Paul Dieffenbacher of Clarion. Mrs. Dieffenbacher's body was brought to Clarion Wednesday and funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Dieffenbacher, with Dr. John Ballentine officiating. Interment in Clarion cemetery.
