(March 14, 1929) A telegram was received last Tuesday morning from Phoenix,
Arizona, stating that Mrs. Inez H. Fox, wife of the late Ed. L. Fox, had
been seized by sudden illness in the morning and had passed away quietly
Monday afternoon, March 11, 1929. The body will be brought to Clarion for
internment under escort. The announcement of the death of Mrs. Fox, who for
many years was one of the most prominent and best loved ladies of Clarion in
family, social and church life, carried sincere sorrow with it to many
hearts in this community. The deceased was born 69 years ago next July 10,
near Jersey Shore, Pa., the daughter of Charles C. and Matilda (Farnsworth)
Dieffenbacher. With her parents she came to Clarion in 1875 where the home
was established. She was united in marriage to Edward L. Fox, the former
well known grocer and business man of Clarion in September 1870, who
preceded her in death in October 1919. Mrs. Fox is survived by two sons and
two daughters: Walter G. Fox, of Grove City; Fred F. Fox of Pittsburgh; Inez
wife of Frank Fairman, of Kane and Matilda, wife of J. C. Smith, Phoenix,
Arizona. She is survived by two brothers and one sister as follows: Mrs. A.
J. Reinhart, Canton, 0.; Lloyd E. Dieffenbacher, of Erie, and O. F.
Dieffenbacher, of Clarion. Eight grandchildren also survive. For many years
Mrs. Fox was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Clarion and was
active in its work and it was while she and Mr. Fox were worshipping in the
prayer meeting one Wednesday evening in October 1919 that the call came to
Mr. Fox and his spirit quietly passed over to the eternal realm. When her
home was thus broken up, Mrs. Fox went to live with her daughter, Mrs.
Smith, and was happy and enjoyed life in the great southwest. The body of
Mrs. Fox will arrive in Clarion on Sunday about noon, and the funeral will
be held in the First Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev.
Dr. John Ballentine, an old friend of the family, and Rev. A. E. Douglass,
the present pastor, will have charge of the services. (March 21, 1929)
According to previous announcement and arrangement the funeral services of
Mrs. Inez H. Fox, wife of the late Ed. L. Fox, who died at Phoenix, Arizona,
March] 11th , were held in the First Baptist Church of Clarion last Monday,
March 18th at 2:30 p.m. The services were conducted by Rev. Dr. John
Ballentine, an old friend of the deceased, and Rev. A. E. Douglass, present
pastor of the church, and was participated in by Rev. Robert Dieffenbacher,
a nephew of the deceased who delivered the opening prayer. A quite large
company of old friends of Mrs. Fox gathered to pay their last tribute of
respect to her. Amid a profuse and beautiful display of flowers, tributes
from friends, her body lay peacefully resting and the familiar face seemed
as though it might easily speak so natural did it appear. Rev. Douglass read
appropriate passages from the Scriptures following which Rev. Robert
Dieffenbacher, of Pittsburgh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd E. DiefIenbacher of
Erie, made a most touching and beautiful prayer. Dr. Ballentine paid a fine
tribute to the deceased in an address full of personal references to her
splendid Christian life and example, and especially referring to the death
of her husband in the church where now her funeral services were being held.
The services were most impressive and at their close the body was borne to
the Clarion cemetery where it was laid to rest beside her late husband. Of
the relatives of the deceased and those from a distance the following were
present: Children--Walter G. Fox, wife and son, Grove City; Fred Fox, two
sons and daughter, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Frank Fairman and husband, Kane.
Brothers and sisters-G. F. Dieflenbacher, wife and two sons; Lloyd E.
Dieffenbacher, wife and son, Erie; Rev. Robert Dieffenbacher and wife,
Pittsburgh; Mrs. Maysie Reinhart and son Ralph and wife of Canton, 0.; Mrs.
W. W. Packer, Munhall, and Miss Alice Dieffenbacher, Butler; two cousins.
Friends-Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dietterick, Knox; Mr. John H. Craig of Sligo.
