Biography

Samuel Rose Wiant was born 16 Jul 1829 in New York.
The marriage record states that Samuel R. "Waint", farmer, residence Chester, Dodge Co., WI, born in New York, married 1 Jan 1853 in Chester, Dodge Co, WI to Mary "Hall". The marriage record states the parents of the groom are George J and Mary "Waint" and the parents of the bride are Mahlon and Mary "Hall". The date of Certificate is 8 Jan 1853 and date of Registration is 19 Jan 1853. [1]

Mary Hull is found with her parents Mahlon and Mary Hull in 1850 in Dodge Co., WI. The only documentation linking Samuel to parents is his marriage record. I think the parents of Samuel Rose Wiant may be Mary Rose and George J. Weiant of Rockland Co., NY.

On 23 Jun 1854, George W. Williams sold 200 acres to Samuel R. Wyant of La Crosse Co., WI. On 27 Oct 1854, Samuel R Wiant and Mary his wife of Leon twp, Monroe Co, WI sell land. [2] He purchased 160 acres in Monroe Co., WI on 15 Apr 1856 and 40 acres in Monroe Co., WI on 19 Feb 1857. [3]

An obituary stated that Samuel Rose Wiant was born in N.Y. July 16th, 1829, died June 19, 1911 at the home of his grandson C. L. Cooper. Mr. Wiant left his native state N.Y. at the age of 16 and went to Wisconsin. He moved from there to Kansas, to Nebr, and then to Mobeetie, TX, where he spent the later part of his life. He was married at about 22 years of age to Miss Hull who died in Feb 1897. Grampa Wiant, as he was generally called, always had a smile and a cheerful greeting for everyone. He served in the ministry 30 years, and was a member of the United Brethern church. He was buried in the Mayfield Cemetery in Beckham Co., OK.[4]

He died 16 Jul 1829 in Beckham Co OK. [5] A transcription of the cemetery lists his name, but currently there is no marker at the cemetery even though there is a listing on findagrave. He was buried in Mayfield Cemetery, Mayfield, Beckham County, OK. [6]
