Hiram Joseph Shoemaker was born August 4, 1845 in Indiana to Joseph H. Shoemaker and Francis Philandra Joslin.
He married Delia Adelia Bellis on February 14, 1867 in Fremont Township, Page County, Iowa at the home of her father Wilson Bellis. Nine known children were born to them, Jacob, Francis Margaret (Fanny), George, Edward, Joseph, Wilson, Minnie, Jesse, and a daughter.
Left his family when the children were little. He changed his name and that he was still alive in the 1920' or 1930's living in eastern Nebraska with a 2nd family. Donna claims that many researchers have tried to find him. She says that he must have done a good job changing birthdates & places as well , as she has gone through endless census records and cannot locate him. She was wondering if our family side to give her any insight but she gave me some. All I know is that he left the family and no one heard from him since. If he changed his name, who knows what he changed it to.
He died possibly in 1929 in West Nebraska.

Delia Adelia Bellis Shoemaker Rhodes was born June 4, 1848 in Wayne County, Indiana to Wilson Bellis and Margaret June Schamp. She married Hiram Joseph Shoemaker on February 14, 1867 in Fremont Township, Page Colunty, Iowa at the home of her father, Wilson Bellis. Nine known children were born to them, a daughter, Jacob, Francis Margaret, George W., Edward, Joseph M., Wilson Bronto, Minnie, and Jesse. She married Charles Henry Rhodes on February 5, 1890. She died February 5, 1934 in Bartlett, Fremont County, Iowa and is buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Tabor, Mills County, Iowa
The funeral of Mrs. Henry Rhodes, who passed away Monday night at the home of her son, Jess Shoemaker, was held Wednesday afternoon at the Shoemaker home, conducted by Rev. Chas. Aitken. Mrs. Rhodes had reached the age of 86 years and is survived by several children, and grandchildren, most of whom are living other places. Burial was at Tabor.
