George W. Shoemaker's funeral was held Saturday, September 16, at two o'clock from the Carson Hackett Mortuary in Essex. The Rev. Clement D. Loehr officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Forrest Benedict and songs sung were "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." Casket bearers were Reatus Bruner, T. H. Moore, Elmer Samuelson, and Clarence Weidman. Interment was at the Essex Cemetery.
George W. Shoemaker was born March 15, 1870, in Elk County, Kansas, and died September 14, 1961 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Tabor. He was ninety-one years of age. He was married to Anna Davis, who preceded him in death, January 28, 1951. There were two step-sons, Orval and Austin Cravin. Austin preceded him in death in 1959. Orval, who is in poor health, makes his home at a nursing home in Clarinda.
Mr. Shoemaker was a farmer for many years. In 1930, he moved to Essex, where he lived until his health forced him to enter the nursing home.
He is survived by one sister, Maggie Abbott of Nebraska City. Also several nieces and nephews.
