Biography
Samuel Arthur Monroe Cooper was known as Arthur and as Sam. He was born 9 Dec 1896 in Mobeetie, Wheeler County, Texas.[1] A license for marriage was dated 5 Apr 1918 in Ward County, Texas. On 13 Apr 1918, he married Mabel Toby in a double wedding in a picnic area along a Texas road near NM. His parents lived in Pecos, Texas and her parents lived in Cooper, New Mexico near his grandparents.[2][3]
His World War I Draft Registration Card was signed on 5 Jun 1918: Name Samuel Arthur Monroe Cooper, age 21, born 9 Dec 1896 in Mobeetie, Texas. His father was born in Kansas. He worked for Pecos Auto Company, Pecos, Texas. Nearest Relative: Mable Opal Cooper, Pecos, Texas. Color of eyes: Blue, Color of Hair: Lt. Brown.[4] He enlisted 6 Sep 1918 in 27 Co 165 Depot Brigade, U. S. Army.[5]
Sam and Mabel lived in El Paso in 1920, Ancestry has omitted the images for the first part of Enumeration District 65, District 19. The abstractions on ancestry.com are incorrect. The family is listed on page 6B at 2526 San Diego Street in El Paso, Texas. They are listed as dwelling number 114 and family number 121. In the same dwelling are his sister Fern and her husband Leonard Alexander. [6] The family lived in Burkburnett, TX in 1930 and Electra, TX in 1940.[7]
World War II Draft Registration Card was signed S. A. M. Cooper on 27 Apr 1942. Samuel Arthur Monroe Cooper, resided in Electra, Wichita County, Texas, age 45, born 9 Dec 1896 in Mobeetie (Wheeler) Texas. Self-employed. "Person who will always know his address": Mrs. Mabel O. Cooper. Height 5 feet 10 inches, weight 207, Blue eyes, Brown hair, Light complexion.[8]
Sam died on 3 Feb 1959 in Dallas.[9] He was buried in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, Irving, Dallas County, Texas in lot 105A in the Garden of Peace.[10]

Mabel Opal Toby was born 9 Feb 1905 in Gustine, Comanche Co, TX. Her parents were Martha "Mattie" Small and George Washington Toby.
On 13 Apr 1918, Samuel Arthur Monroe Cooper married Mabel Toby in a double wedding in a picnic area along a Texas road near NM. His parents lived in Pecos, Texas and her parents lived in Cooper, New Mexico near his grandparents.[1]
She died 27 May 1997 in Baltimore, MD. She is buried in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, Irving, Dallas County, Texas.[2]
