Obit at right...small print:

After a serious illness of only two weeks, Rev. A.C. Zabriskie departed this life. Funeral was held at his residence Aug. 8th and was conducted by Rev. R.D. McCormick, of Fayette, an intimate friend of long standing.

Amos Clark was the oldest child of George L. and Mary J. Zabriskie; in their HH in 1860 were children: Amos 23; Goerge W 18; Oscar 9; and Mary 6, and Roy M. bn 1878.

Amos C. served in the Iowa 32nd Inf., Co. K, Union Army until the close of the War. Throughout his life, he retained a geat interest in the Grand Army. For a series of yrs he was in great demand as a speaker at encampments throughout the state, and the few remaining comrades in the vicinity were his chosen pall bearers.
He married Mary J. Clute 18 April 1866, a most estimable woman who was an excellent homemaker and helpful companion. To this union seven children were born---four of whom, and his devoted wife, survive him.

He was converted in 1867, and labored as a licentiate among the United Brethren, engaging in itenerate work. In 1886, having united with the Free Will Baptists, he was ordained, and became pastor of the Buffalo Grove and Madison churches in Iowa (which are listed in Buchanan Ciounty's history of churches. For more than thirty-five years he preached the gospel in the pulpits of various denominations in country places and in villages and towns. For although thoroughly orthodox he was was broad in his sympathies and understanding of religious principles. For a number of years he conducted revival meetings during the winter. The saving power of Christ was his great theme---On account of his clear thinking and his deep moral conviction, he was a very effective extemporaneous speaker. The power that he pocessed was an inheritance and a special "enducement from on high" rather than the result of education.
His funeral services attended by over 300, attested to his influence. He performed weddings and funerals in the hundreds. It was said, "he was a friend maker and a faithful and helpful friend to many of all classes. He loved people. He was actively engaged in other pursuits, improving several farms, and the ownership of houses and lands generously rewarded his industry and enterprise.
For forty years he was a poplar auctioneer. And for 35 years he was an agent for the Hawkeye Insurance Co. He was highly esteemed by both his company and patrons.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; three sons: R.S; R.M., of Stanley; Vance A. of California; his daughter, Mrs. Archie (Jennie)White of Stanley; six grandchildren
