Mary Olive Milnes, 90, of Moberly, died Sunday, September 16, 2018. She was born July 8, 1928 in Moberly to Walter L. and Ada (Brown) Cavanaugh.
Mary married Charles H. Milnes on October 18, 1946 in Olathe, KS and he preceded her in death on December 22, 1998. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Elaine Montgomery, a brother, Porter Roy Cavanaugh and son-in-law, Leonard Parker.
Survivors include her children; Kerma Cash and her husband Richard of Ozark, MO, Julia Davidson and her husband Kenny of Moberly, Deborah Parker of Moberly, C.L. Milnes and his wife Pam of Coffeyville, KS, Kristi Hughes and her husband Greg of Dixon, IL, Suzanne Parks and her husband Rusty of Carryton, TN and Renee Milnes of Moberly, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Jim Montgomery, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mary was known for being very hospitable. Many times she enjoyed having lots of company and feeding lots of people. One of her favorite sayings was “we’ll make room for you, if we have to, we’ll hang you on a nail”.
She loved her children and her grandchildren. It was very important to her that they remembered Jehovah in their lives. She frequently reminded them of this.
She had an excellent memory. She knew when everyone was born, married, and could recite stories and events from everyone’s life.
She was strong and independent for a long time. An example of this is in 1958 she drove her mother-in-law, niece, and four children to New York to attend the International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She took care of several aged and ill family member and when she could no longer take care of herself, friends and family willingly took care of her.
Mary dedicated her life to Jehovah and baptism June 21, 1948. She was a member of the Moberly congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She loved telling people about Jehovah and his promises. She will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in knowing we will see her again.
A memorial will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses. Private graveside services will be held at the Oakland Cemetery.
