Bertha married John C. Basinger on February 24, 1918 in Ellis County, Texas. He was a farmer and later ran the Rankin General Store located in the lower floor of the Rankin Masonic Lodge building. They lived in Rankin, Ellis County until the mid-1960's when they sold their farm and moved to Abilene, Taylor County, Texas to be near their daughter Billie Jean Brown.

John and Bertha had the following children:
