Karl David Leonard Anderson, son of John and Ida Swanson Anderson, was born at Torup, Sweden on November 15, 1895. He was one of a family to two boys and one girl.
The early years of his life were lived in Sweden In 1913, when a young man of 18, he came to America to make his home, settling in Emerson, Iowa vicinity. He farmed there and later in Page County in Coburg and Essex vicinities.
On August 17, 1927 he was united in marriage with Stella Shoemaker. To this union three sons and two daughters were born. The couple had observed their 49th wedding anniversary this past August. Following their marriage, they farmed several years prior to moving into Essex in 1934. He was employed at the nurseries in Shenandoah a number of years until his retirement about four years ago.
when an infant, he was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Sweden. In recent years he was baptized with his children in the Essex Presbyterian Church.
Preceding him in death are his parents and one brother Ernst.
He is survived by his wife Stella of Essex, three sons, Ernest Anderson of Rock Port, Missouri; Tom Anderson of Essex, and Donald Anderson of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Marie, Mrs. Leon Bonner of Canby, Oregon, and Sigrid, Mrs. Larry Jentch of Wakefield, Nebraska. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Sigrid Johnson of Piegeon Cove, Massachusetts, a number of other relatives and friends.
He died at the Hand Community Hospital, November 4, 1976, following several months of declining health. He was 80 years of age.
Services were held from Hackett Funeral Home, Sunday, November 7, with the Rev. A. R. Sorenson officiating. Soloist was John Lind and organist was Mrs. Margaret Woods.
Mrs. Louise Franks and Mrs. Robert Smith cared for the flowers and Mrs. Lawrence Bramble was in charge of the memory register.
Casket bearers were Charles Adams, George Glassinger, Donald Hadden, Wilson Hadden, George Ross, and Robert Smith. Interment was at the Essex Cemetery.

Stella Irene Shoemaker Anderson, daughter of Wilson Bronton and Iva Florence (Hill) Shoemaker, was born January 20, 1907 at Solomon, Iowa and passed away December 31, 1995 at Garden View Care Center, Shenandoah. She was 88 years of age.
On August 17, 1927, Stella was united in marriage with David C. Anderson of Clarinda, Iowa, and to this union five children, Marie Ernst, Thomas, Sigrid, and Donald were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David in 1976, a son, Donald in 1979, a sister, Alice Ekman, three brothers, George Shoemaker, Charles Shoemaker, and Bill Shoemaker, and her parents Wilson and Iva Shoemaker.
Surviving are four children, Marie Bonners of Canby, Oregon, Ernest Anderson and wife Joyce of Shenandoah, Thomas Anderson and wife Linda of Essex, Sigrid Jentsch and husband Larry of Sioux Center, Iowa, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great-granchildren, a number of other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services were held at the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Iowa, Wednesday, January 3, 1996, at 2 p.m. Gary Windeckeer gave the words of comfort.
