Charles Henry Shoemaker Jr. was born June 29, 1926 in Taylor County, Iowa to Charles Henry Shoemaker and Marguerite Maurene Parr. He died July 31, 2001 in New Market, Taylor and is buried in the Siam Cemetery. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Eva Young. They were blessed with three daughters, Laura, Teresa and Myra Maureen.

Dorothy Shoemaker, age 85, of Corning, Iowa, formerly of the Siam/New Market, Iowa area entered into peace Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Greater Regional Hospice House, Creston, Iowa.

Dorothy Eva Shoemaker was born August 16, 1927, at Yorktown, Iowa to Forest Emery Young and Pearl Arvilla (Atwood) Young.

She grew up in the Yorktown area attending elementary school at Yorktown and graduating from Clarinda High School. She continued her education at Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville receiving a teaching degree.

On March 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Charles Henry Shoemaker, Jr. They were blessed with three daughters, Laura, Teresa and Myra Maureen.

Dorothy and Junior farmed in the Siam area. In addition to raising her family and helping with the farm, she taught in rural schools and later worked at the Super Value grocery store as a clerk.

Dorothy was an active member of the Siam Church of Christ. She directed and taught Bible School and took care of the flowers at the church.

She was a member of the Willing Workers and H. C. clubs. Dorothy enjoyed the hand tooled leather crafts taught through the Page County Extension office.

She also enjoyed volunteering at the museum and reading to the elderly.

Genealogy was a special interest and she researched and compiled her family tree.

Dorothy will be remembered for her philosophy of life of an "open heart and open home". Her home was always open to anyone with a need and they were welcomed and loved and made comfortable.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; husband, Junior Shoemaker; daughter, Myra Maureen Shoemaker; great grandson, Hunter Cole; siblings, Violet Glassgow, Paul Young, Robert Young, Harriet Wigle, Maybel Nelsen, and Clyde Young.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Laura Albin and husband Terry of Lawrence, Kansas and Teresa Hoover and husband David of Corning, Iowa; grandchildren, Chad Albin and wife Erika of Lees Summit, Missouri, Aaron Albin of Chicago, Illinois, Amanda Dillingham and husband William of Kansas City, Missouri, Adam Cole and wife Brandi of Diagonal,Iowa, Andrew Cole and wife Peggy of Oakland, Iowa, Travis Hoover of Des Moines, Iowa and Kaleb Hoover of Des Moines, Iowa; eleven great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many friends.

Dorothy's kindness and generosity will be greatly missed by her family and friends; her memory will live on in their hearts. May God grant comfort and peace to those who mourn her passing.
