MARTIN E. ABBOTT
Services for Martin E. Abbott, 69, of Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska, will be held at 2 P.M., today at Gude Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Todd Karges of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
Mr. Abbott, who was born on January 31, 1924, in Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska, the son of Adrian and Nora (Jones) Abbott, died at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City, Nebraska on November 26, 1993.
He was married in Hiawatha, Kansas, on November 28, 1945, to Lorraine Esser, and precedes her in death. He is also survived by his children, Mrs. Larry (Mardena) Briley of Percival, Iowa, Barry Abbott of Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Carl Abbott and wife Tammy of Nebraska City, Nebraska, and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Clarence, in 1969, and three brothers.
Martin lived in Nebraska City most of his life and worked at Haverty's Farm and City Service until retirement. He was a member of U.C.T., and Eagles Lodge.
Burial will be at Wyuka Cemetery, Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska.
Also surviving are Mr. Abbott's brothers and sisters, Mrs. Lola Barrett and her husband Delbert of Fremont, Nebraska, Darold and his wife Janice of Elmwood,Nebraska, Wanda Barrett of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Tom and his wife Mary Lou Abbott of Las Vegas, Nevada, Vernus Abbott of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Larry Abbott of Union, Nebraska.
The family will greet relatives and friends Sunday evening from 7 to 8 P.M., at Gude Mortuary.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Esser, Jerry Barrett, Don Poggemeyer, Dave Schneider, Darold Abbott, Jr., and Brian Zech.

Lorraine “Babe” Abbott, age 88 of Nebraska City passed away early Saturday morning; March 7, 2015 at Duff’s Friendship Villa in Nebr. City.
She was born on December 10, 1926 at rural Nebraska City near the former Minersville area; the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Cisco) Esser. She was one of thirteen children in the family. She attended school and graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the class of 1945.
She was united in marriage to Martin Edward Abbott on November 28, 1945 at Hiawatha, KS. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1993.
Lorraine was a housewife and homemaker and also worked at various places including Ocomo Foods, Hested's Department Store and at Arbor Lodge in Nebraska City, NE. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her three children: Mardeena Briley of Percival, IA; Barry Abbott of Nebr. City and Carl Abbott of Nebr. City; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In addition to her husband Martin, she was preceded in death by a son Clarence Abbott on July 13, 1969, a son-in-law Larry Briley and siblings: Roy, Clarence, Delbert, Frank, Herbert, Hank, Eugene, Mamie, Mary, Julia, Bernice and Mercedes.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday (March 11) at 2:00 pm. At the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City; burial will follow in the Wyuka Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gude Mortuary.
Memorials may be given to the Nebr. City Rescue.
