Death: Jul. 1, 1922

Adam Phillips, a carpenter employed on the new tuberculosis sanitorium, fell from a scaffold while at work on the building about 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning and was almost instantly killed. His neck was broken. A scaffold on which he and another man were working broke
with them and Mr. Phillips fell a distance of about twenty feet. The other man saved himself by grabbing hold of a piece of timber and held on until help came. Mr. Phillips was placed in an automobile and hurried to the Decatur
and Macon County hospital, nearby but he was dead when the car reached the hospital. The body was removed to the Dawson & Wikoff undertaking establishment and prepared
for burial. The scaffold did not break, according to men who were there, but the board on which Mr. Phillips stood
slipped and he slid off the scaffold. Mr. Phillips was fifty-nine years old last January. He was born in
South Wheatland township Jan. 10 1863, and had always lived in Macon county. He was a member of the Salem church and the Carpenters union. He is survived by his wife and
three children, Mrs. Goldie Tefft, Mrs. Verna Scott and Roy Phillips, all Decatur. A daughter, Ruby DeLong,, died Oct. 2, 1920. There are three brothers, W. L. Phillips and
Charles F. Phillips of South Wheatland township and Oliver L. Phillips of St. Louis. The body will be taken to the
home, 503 South Haworth avenue, Sunday morning, and the funeral will be held there at 2:'30 o'clock Monday afternoon. The interment will be in the Salem cemetery.
The inquest was condiucted by Coroner Roy Dawson Saturday afternoon. The verdict was that death was accidental.
