Herbert W. Vanaman, 91, died Monday in Millville Hospital.

A lifelong Port Elizabeth resident, he was a retired glass-worker. A member of the Port Elizabeth United Methodist Church, Mr. Vanaman served on its board of trustees.

A World War I U.S. Navy veteran, he served on the battleship Iowa. A local historian, he was a member of the South Jersey, Cumberland County, Vineland and Maurice River historical societies. He was a historical slide lecturer for local organizations and a charter member of the Port Elizabeth Fire Company.

Survivng are: four sons, Herbert W. Jr., of Salt Lake City, Utah, Adrian O. of San Diego, Calif., James B. of Huntsville, Ala., and Joseph O. of Mauricetown; three brothers, James of Michigan, Alfred J. of Port Elizabeth and Maurice of Vineland; two sisters, Dorothy Petit deNange of Oxford, Pa., and Elizabeth Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sadsbury Friends Cemetery in Christiana, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Maurice River or Cumberland County historical societies.

Arrangements are by the Robert V. Hoffman Funeral Home, Leesburg.
