we call him Algernon. May Divine Wisdom and Goodness protect him from harm, and
guide his feet into the paths of virtue."

"Grimsby Independent, 15 Dec 1915, p. 1,5
Dr. Algernon Woolverton, one of the best known of this city's older medical practitioners, is dead, according to cable advices received from Italy today by the Mercantile Trust Co. The late Dr. Woolverton went to Italy two years ago in an effort to regain his health, which had been poor for several years. It was while returning from a trip to the Old Country some years ago that he was seized with a stroke, just as he was leaving the shisp at Montreal. The cable states that death occurred in Florence, on December 4. Dr. Woolverton was a son of the late Dr. Woolverton of Grimsby, who was old United Empire Loyalist stock. He was educated at the university of Toronto, where he graduated in arts and medicine, and as a young man came to Hamilton, where for many years he practiced his profession. For a number of yearss he held the position of medical superintendant of the Federal Life Assurance Company, and was also a member of hte local board of education. In this latter capacity he served the city faithfully and well and was considered one of hte best men of his day on matters of education. He was also greatly interested in the public library, to the board of which he was elected as representative of the board of education in 1902. Three years later, he was elected chairman of the board, of which he was a member up to the time of his leaving the city. When a young man, Dr. Woolverton took an active interest in clean sport, having enjoyed the distinction of being one of the best cricketers in this country. He was also an able lawn bowler, and was a member of the Thistle Club. Deceased was twice married. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, the latter now residing in Boston, Mass. A brother, E. J. Woolverton, of Grimsby, on of the best known fruit growers of the district, also survives. Nothing relative to funeral arrangements has yet been announced."

"5. St. Mark/ St. John
St. Mark: The tiled floor on which St Mark stands is the same
as that in the portrayal of St John in the adjacent light, and appears
in presentations of St John in other churches. The lion in
one of the lower panels is symbolic of Mark. Helen Nelles
Woolverton died on June 13 1884, aged 35. She was the first
wife of Dr Algernon Woolverton. She was said to be a gentle,
devout woman, active in the Ladies Aid, and a musician who
occasionally played the organ in the Cathedral. There is a record
of a musical evening given at the Woolverton’s house across
from the Cathedral to raise money for the building fund. On her
deathbed she requested that her husband be baptized and Dr
Mockridge performed the rite and Mrs Woolverton named him.
The archives contain extensive information about the Woolverton
family. The central panel appears in other churches.
"St. John: The tiled floor on which St John stands is the
same as that in the portrayal of St John in other churches.
The eagle in one of the lower panels is associated with the
evangelist John, and many churches incorporate an eagle
into the lectern which holds the Bible on the outstretched
wings of an eagle. James MacNab (July 1834 to January 24
1866) was probably a member of the family of Sir Allan
MacNab, but not directly. A connection can be made between
the MacNab and Woolverton families, but it is distant.
The central panel appears in other churches."
