Bernice M. Mettler, 95, of Rest Haven, North Manheim Township, formerly of Cressona and Orwigsburg, passed away Tuesday at Rest Haven, where she had been a resident for 2 1/2 years.

Born in Sugar Valley, Sept. 4, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Henry H. and Elizabeth Schrack Shaffer.

She was the widow of James W. Mettler, who died April 26, 1999.

She retired as a registered nurse, having worked at Pottsville and Good Samaritan hospitals as a private duty nurse.

Bernice was a Red Cross and Blood Mobile volunteer for numerous years.

Surviving are daughters, Monya Lange, the Netherlands, and Sherry Bartush, Orwigsburg; a sister, Beatrice M. Yeager, Northumberland; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, John, Nov. 15, 2001.

Friends are invited to call from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, Cressona. Religious services will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Nathan Drunkenmiller officiating. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. The family requests donations to Rest Haven Resident Welfare Fund, 401 University Drive, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972. Condolences may be sent to the family in care of gsesfuneralhomes.com. Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, Cressona, is in charge of arrangements."
