Cory, Ind- Services for Orville Sparks, 88, RR 1, who died at 7:30 pm Friday at his residence, are pending at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City. He was a retired farmer and a member of Maple Grove Community Church. Surviving are a widow, Merle, and a daughter, Mrs Fredia Philabaum, Brazil.

Merle Jeffers Sparks, 79, Rt #1, Cory, was found dead at her home by the family about 7 pm Thursday.
She has been a resident of Cory since 1940. She had been under the care of a physcian for quite some time and was hospitalized last Janurary for treatment.
Born in Perry Twp of Clay Co. on March 27, 1902, she was the daughter of the late George & Anna Waggoner Jeffers. She attended Ashboro School & also Saline City Church & Maple Grove Community Church. At one time, she attended the Good Hope Baptist Church in Middlebury.
She married her late husband, Orville Sparks on Nov 25, 1931. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1980.
Surviving are a brother, Cyril Jeffers, RT 1, Cory; a step-daughter, Freida Mae Philabaum, Brazil; three nephews, Forrest Lowdermilk-Clay City, Clyde Lowdermild-Santa Barbara, Calif., & Dale Lowdermilk-Rt 1 Cory.
Services will take place at 1:30 Sat. at the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City. The Rev Harlan Mayfield, pastor of the Cory United Methodist Church will officiate with burial following in Maple Grove Cemetery at Clay City.
