Marlene Diane Mattox, 63, of Battle Ground, IN passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014.

She lived with her daughter, Sarah Celeste Brown and grandson, Samuel Forrest Stull. Her son is Jeremy (Jeremiah) Ben Griffith Brown.

She was born in Cory, IN to the late Forrest and Ruby Gilbert Mattox. Marlene was a mother, grandmother, and a great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, W. David Griffith and two stillbirths and then by her second husband, Max O. Brown and their daughter, Rebecca Brown. Marlene attended Cory High School and graduated from Clay City High School after consolidation. She attended Purdue University and later graduated from Ivy Tech in 1993. She received a Certification of Lay Ministry in 2005 from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer. Marlene took multiple online courses in physics, history, genetics, anthropology, and genealogy during her lifetime.

During her lifetime, she worked many years as a professional men's tailor for Ermish Cleaners and almost 20 years as a master tailor for Root's Department Store in Terre Haute. Changing professions, she moved to Machine Tool in Terre Haute as schematic draftsman and then moved to the West Lafayette Engineers Office as Engineering Assistant. On weekends she worked as a clerk at the Lafayette Kmart, doing research for Boston's elite Blake and Blake Co., and the Smithsonian Institute. Lastly, she worked for almost 20 years as the Senior Engineering Technician for the Tippecanoe Area Plan Commission before an accident crushed her vertebrae and she became disabled. She spent her remaining time quilting and doing computer genealogy. Always keeping busy, she taught genealogy classes and was on the Board of Directors for the Wabash Valley Genealogical Society. Marlene was past Regent of the General de Lafayette Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a past member of the Ivy Tech Alumni Board and Board of Religious Education at St. Lawrence Parish in Lafayette. Marlene was also vowed to the third order of Dominican Laity at St. Thomas Aquinas.

She battled health problems all of her life due to a rare blood disease, Acute Intermittent Porphyria (Blue Blood). She was diagnosed early in life and became an avid genealogist. Finally, after 51 years of serious research, she found her family links to the Royal Houses of England and Scotland. Marlene never knew an idle moment, even in disability; her life was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and her faith. Now shed of her earthly body, her spirit is now free to dance, sing, and fly away.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Graveside Services will be on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Clay City, IN.
