Forrest "Frosty" was born to Charles Putnam Mattox and Sylvia Mae Long Mattox, the 3rd of 5 children. He attended Ashboro school, married Ruby Doris Gilbert on Sept. 29, 1935, served in the US Army during WWII, had three children, David Richard, Melanie Elaine and Marlene Diane. His family lived in Saline City, Terre Haute, Clay City, Linton and Cory Indiana. He was a farmer and Master Barber with his own Barbershop in Cory, In. After the death of his wife Ruby, he married Hester Hitchcock Mattox in 1996. He was active in the Republican party and a 50 year member of the American Legion, Riley chapter. He attended Cory Zion Church and is buried with his family at Clay City, In. He was an honest, responsible and hard working husband and father whose sense of humor enlightened everyone near him.

Ruby was the first child of William Ervin Gilbert and Elva Mae Sparks Gilbert of rural Cory, In. She attended and graduated from Cory School and married Forrest "Frosty" Mattox in September 1935. She was the mother of three children, David Richard, Melanie Elaine and Marlene Diane. She was a beautician by trade and had a Beauty Salon in her home in Cory, In. She was an intelligent, sharp, gentle and patient woman who was well read and never without a book. She encouraged all around her to read and study. She was a gifted crafter and seamstress, who in her later years helped support her family with her handicrafts and quilts.
