Biography

William Furman was born in 9 January 1751 and died 1 January 1826. He married Rachel Wolverton in 1744. She was born in 1755 and died in 1819.

Information is very sketchy (to the writer's knowledge) about William Furman. What information exists is largely the result of people tracing history to the Revolutionary War. The DAR patriot index records this basic data, but gives his birth place as Gloucester Co., NJ rather than NY as shown here. [1]

Military Service

William Furman served in the 3rd Battalion, Gloucester Co., N.J. Militia; he also served as Sargeant in Col. Richard Somer's Battalion, N.J. State Troops. He was with Washington at Valley Forge - verified by National No. 28264. This record is from the N.J. Adjutant General's Certificate. The DAR patriot record states he was rank of private.

After the Revolutionary War, William and Rachel and their son Jonathan moved to Northumberland Co., PA. Whether or not they had other children is not known by this writer.
