Biography

Biography: Jonathan was born in Gloucester Co., NJ while his father was at war.

His mother could hear the sound of battle and wondered if her husband
would return to see his newborn son.

At an early age his parents moved to Northumberland Co., PA. There he
married Sarah Howe on 3 Mar 1803. She was born there on 8 Dec 1782.
In 1825 Jonathan moved his family to Strattanville, Clarion Co., PA.
Sarah died 7 Sep 1849 and he died 7 Feb 1862. They are both buried in the
Coolspring Cemetery in Fairview Township, Mercer Co., PA.
They had 12 children, the last two were born in Strattanville.
Johnathan was drafted into the war of 1812, and served three months
at Marcus Hook, near Philadelphia, PA.

Biography

Biography: Sarah's life is highlighted in the biography of her husband Jonathan
Furman.

Sarah's father was Samuel Howe, born 1755 and died 1804. Her mother
was Betsy Deamer, born 1758 and died 1820. They married in 1774.
Samuel was a private in the Northumberland Co. Militia (page 367, Vol.
4, PA Archives - Fifth Series).

Betsy was the daughter of the rector of the Church of England who had
the oversight of a Philadelphia church before the Revolution.
The Howes had seven children, Betsy was the sixth.
