ALBANY - Harland E. Jeffers, 88, Albany, died Wednesday June 4, 2014 at home following an illness.

Born in Vigo County on February 15, 1926, his family moved to the DeSoto area when he was young.

He graduated from DeSoto High School in 1944 and three days later was drafted into the military. Harland served a term of service in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was honorably discharged.

He lived in Florida for fifty-three years, during that time he worked for Tip Top Bakeries as a bread delivery driver until retirement. He also worked for several years in auction houses in Florida and Indiana. Harland moved to Albany in 2005 and was a member of Albany Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Mary J. (Cougill) Jeffers; a son, Duane Jeffers, FL; two daughters, Connie Jean Swartwood, FL, and Janelle McKenna (husband, Michael), FL; a step-son, Michael Dalton (wife, Valerie), Muncie; two step-daughters, Debbie Alexander (husband, Roger), Albany, and Pam Clevenger (husband, Jerry), DeSoto; a brother, Wayman Jeffers, GA; two grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; eighteen step great-grandchildren; two nieces and five nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. & Daisey M. Jeffers, and two brothers, Richard Jeffers and Bob Jeffers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Union Cemetery, DeSoto.

Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
