"Delbert Ford
(1938-2004)
Delbert (Deb) Dewayne Ford, 65 of Lovilia died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Gilbert Funeral Chapel in Lovilia, Pastor Jill Leveck of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia.
Deb was born June 26, 1938 in Bussey, to Francis and Lois (Little) Ford. He graduated from Bussey High School in 1954. On June 7, he entered the Iowa Army National Guard. He served as a Specialist Third Class with Company A 168th Infantry until his discharge on June 3, 1956. Deb then entered the U.S. Navy and was discharged on June 6, 1962. He married JoAnn Slofkosky on Sept, 24, 1984 in Oskaloosa. He owned and operated Ford's North End Tap in Lovilia. Deb was a member of the Amercan Legion and the Eagles. He was an excellent rifleman.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years; three sons Kelly (Mary) Ford of Knoxville, Kyle (Angie) Ford of Attica and Kory (Carrie) of Lovilia; three stepdaughters Jamie Thomas of Las Vegas, N.V.,[sic] Billie Jo Paulsgrove of Des Moines and Lindsey Paulsgrove of Lovilia; one sister Lavada (Tim) Duffy of Des Moines; three brothers, Philip (Sandra) Ford of Bussey, Ernie (Patty) Ford of Lovilia, and Joe (Judy) Ford of Bussey; sister-in-law Lois Ford of Bussey; 16 grandchildren, Chad, Erica, Alyssa, Mara, Breanne, Nick, Kylie, Gable, Randy, Kaitlin, Austin, Kate, Skylar, Tyler, Keith, & Hailey, and one great-grandson, Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bob and sister Helen Kay.
Memorials are open to the donor's choice.
Casketbearers are Mitch McCombs, Denny Johnson, Clarence Kearns, Joe Ford, Marvin Heaton and Ray Gardner.
Gilbert-Boman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements."
