Madison was named after his uncle, Madison Mixter, twin brother of his father, Addison. He was tall of stature with dark hair and very pale blue eyes. In later years he grew a beard to hide scars that were the result of a horse kicking him in the face.

Madison married, December 17, 1890, Nellie Elnora CUMMINS, daughter of Capt. Enos Clark and Harriet Almira (Humiston)CUMMINS. They were married at the home of the bride's mother. Those present were the near relatives of the happy couple.

A native of Milan, Ohio, he spent his long life in the vicinity engaging in farming up until the last year or two of his life. On December 17, 1890, he married Nellie Cummins. When they were first married they went to live on the Mixter Homestead on East River Road where they resided for about 25 years. From there they moved to a home on Route 601 just south of town from which they moved to a home on the corner of Church and Edison Drive.

Mr. Mixter was a member of the Milan Presbyterian Church, an honorary elder and served the Presbyterian Society continuously as secretary from 1888 to 1954, missing but one meeting over the years. He was also a member of Erie Lodge 239, F&AM; Milan Chapter, RAM; Edison Chapter, OES and Milan Grange, being a pst master and active nearly 50 years in Grange work.

Eastern Star services and Masonic rites were held at the funeral home, services at the Presbyterian Church, and burial followed in Milan Cemetery.
