William D. Graves, 65, of Shingletown, Calif., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, in Columbia, as a result of cancer. He was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Kansas City, Kan.

Mr. Graves was a veteran of the Cuban missile crisis in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and attained the rank of lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from De. 28, 1961 to June 25, 1965.

He is survived by his wife Sherry Graves, his son, Brian D. Graves, his grandson, Caden Lawrence Graves as well as his three brothers, Wilford Graves, Raymond Graves and Thomas Graves.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Tuscumbia First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Military interment by VFW Post 2442 will be in Tuscumbia Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Heartland Cremation & Burial Society of Columbia. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
