John Knox Cunningham, 94, of West Deer, was called home Friday, Sept. 23, 2011. He was born in Gibsonia, Sept. 2, 1917, to the late William and Jenna Conley Cunningham. He was a lifetime member of Deer Creek United Presbyterian Church, where he held many offices and was groundskeeper until the age of 90. He was a 40-year employee of Republic Steel Corp. of Russellton. He enjoyed golf, travel and time spent with his beloved family. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Alma Stepp Cunningham; infant son, William; brothers, Hugh and Charles; sisters, Stella Wood Walters and Earla Hohmann; and stepson, David Bodick. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Dorothy Kaczor Bodick Cunningham; son, James (Lois) Cunningham, of Virginia Beach; stepchildren, Susan (Thomas) Tihey, of Verona, Joseph Bodick, of Lower Burrell, Patricia (Dennis) Mastbrook, of Arizona, Beverly Caldwell, of Gibsonia, Michele (Jai) Moxie, of North Huntingdon, and Robert (Kim) Bodick, of Oklahoma; and grandchildren, Laura (Mike) Evans and Carl (Jera) Cunningham, both of Richmond, Va. He also leaves 18 additional grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown 15007 (250 yards off Route 8). Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Deer Creek United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Terry Stoops officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. John's caring, generous spirit and adventurous heart touched all his family and friends. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Heritage Hospice nurses and staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be make to Deer Creek United Presbyterian Church, 33 Bairdford Road, Gibsonia, PA 15044.
