CM2C, U.S. Coast Guard, USS SERPENS AK-97 WORLD WAR II-Seaman Fox was killed by an explosion on 1-29-1945 that completely destroyed the ship down to the keel. They were at Lunga Beach, Guadalcanal onloading depth charges for Destoyers. This ship was a Crater-Class Cargo Freighter issued to the Coast Guard under the Command of the U.S. Navy.

There were 198 sailors killed, and 57 members of the Army Stevedore Unit that were killed. The Captain, Lt. Comm. M.J. Johnson, and about seven others were on shore, and survived.

He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Emmett V. Fox of Pekin, Illinois, now of Springfield, Illinois, and the husband of Mrs. Winfred Crawford Fox of 1306 Ann Eliza Street in Pekin, and they were married in Pekin on April 18, 1940.

Seaman Fox was in the Coast Guard on May 27, 1942 after his employment at American Distilling Co. There is one brother, Ancil Fox of Pekin, Illinois.

Awards: American Campaign Medal, Pacific Campaign Medal with One Battle Star, Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal.
