Clayton Otis Kaigler, Born on October 13, 1921 in Dallas, Texas, passed away September 28, 2006. Clay moved to Phoenix with his family at age 5. He attended Emerson Grammar School and North Phoenix High School. After graduation, served his country in Air Force intelligence during WWII then returned and attended Phoenix College and subsequently graduated from USC with a degree in Psychology. He was married 47 years to Lila Coppage (deceased 2001). They had one son, Kent who was deceased at age 24. Clay was the captain of the tennis team at Phoenix College and continued to play throughout his life and was also an accomplished golfer. Evidence that he was an avid car enthusiast was clearly seen through him owning numerous classic and sports cars including an AV8 Hot Rod, a Bird Cage Maserati and a 928 Porsche. Clay was a Human Resource Analyst for the State of Arizona where he worked for 29 years until retirement. He was a member of the Mensa Society. Clay will be missed by his surviving in-laws, nieces and nephews who in compliance with Clay’s wishes are asking friends and family to gather in his memory at his internment on Friday, October 6th at 2:00 pm at Greenwood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 719 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona.

Lila Joy Kaigler, (Coppage) born October 4, 1934, passed away October 7, 2001 leaving behind her beloved husband of 47 years, Clayton. Lila was the oldest of 5 children born to Helen and Howard Coppage in Chicago, Illinois. The family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in October 1947 where she attended Murphy Grammar School and graduated from West Phoenix High School in 1952. In May, 1954 Lila and Clay were married and subsequently became the parents of an only child, Kent (dec.). After suffering a brain tumor, Lila decided to pursue her education, receiving her Associates Degree from Glendale Community College and her Bachelor of Science at Grand Canyon University, graduating at age 50. During the intervening years, Lila held many positions in the Phoenix business community. She served as United Bank’s Equal Opportunity Officer and was appointed to the Governor’s Board on Equal Opportunity. Other survivors include sisters Kitty Walden and Maureen Hawkins of Phoenix, Mitzi King, and brother Terry Coppage of California; also beloved Aunt Mrs. Lorraine Flynn and five nephews. A service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, October 11, 2001, at Central United Methodist Church in the Pioneer Chapter Located at 1875 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, Arizona.
