Eunice D. Coppage - SAVANNAH - Eunice D. Coppage, 77, passed away Monday March 2, 2009 at Spanish Oaks after an extended battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Milwaukee, WIS and lived in Wauwatosa and Mayville, WIS until her marriage to George A. Coppage in 1955. During their marriage, they lived in Mt. Prospect, Park Ridge and Oakbrook, ILL, Wilton and Fairfield, CONN, St. Louis MO and Cincinnati, OH. They have lived in Savannah the past sixteen years at The landings. Eunice has a BA degree in Education from Bowling Green University. She also attended the University of Dubuque where she met her husband. She taught elementary school for four years before retiring to start a family. Her major interests were family, church, golf, traveling, dancing, swimming and ice skating. Her family always came first. She raised three wonderful children and made her home a delightful place to live. As a wife, mother and homemaker, she was the best! You could not find a more caring and compassionate person than Eunice. She was a good Christian and loved the church. Prior to her illnesses she was active in church committee work and taught Sunday School. Golf was her major hobby prior to marriage and after the children were raised. She was a very good golfer and was active on inter club team competition while a member at four different clubs. She and her husband also teamed up together to win four husband-wife club championships. Unfortunately, her love for golf was interrupted by numerous health problems since retiring to the Landings in Savannah. She was also a proficient swimmer and worked as a lifeguard as a teenager in Mayville, WIS. Eunice was preceded in death by her mother and father, Aggie and Art Dorst, and two older brothers, Dick and Ken Dorst. She will be sadly missed by her surviving husband of fifty-four years, George A. Coppage, three children, Brad, Cindy and Jon and four grandchildren, Erica, Jesse, Nicolle and Ian. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her brother Bob Dorst and several nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. The family extends a special thanks to those wonderful neighbors, friends, and people at Hospice and Spanish Oaks that helped Eunice during her final days and gave her peace and comfort in her fight against Alzheimer's. May she now be free of her pain, suffering, and live the life she prayed for with our Heavenly Father. Funeral services will be held at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be sent to Hospice of Savannah, Alzheimer's Association at 201 Television Circle, Savannah, GA 31406 or the Eunice and George Coppage Endowed Scholarship Fund, Office of Advancement at the University of Dubuque, 2000 University Ave., Dubuque IA 52001-5099.
