When John W Collister was born in August 1853 in Riley, Indiana, his father, Thomas, was 40 and his mother, Susan, was 40. He married Martha E. Hixson on March 5, 1876, in Clay City, Indiana. They had eight children in 20 years. He died on February 17, 1926, in his hometown at the age of 72.
