Cunnings, Mildred Mae (Clutter), 92, of Indiana, died Tuesday May 28, 2013 at her daughter's home in Westover, PA.
Born December 14, 1920 in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Ina (Dwyer) Cutter.
Also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. E. Russel Cunnings; infant son, Thomas, grandson, Mason Maddox, brothers, Robert and John Clutter, sisters, Margaret "Dot" Foulkes and Essie Simpson.
Survived by children, Edward Cunnings and wife Jean (Chronoski) of Indiana, Carol Kruise and husband Barry of Westover, April Maddox and husband Jim of Baltimore, MD, grandchildren, Nevin and Brandon Kruise, Brianna Adele Bernard Maddox; great grandchildren, Nevin Jr., Raven ,and Zara Kruise, sister-in-law, Marian Cunnings of Pittsburgh.
Mid was a 1939 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School, Chicago School of Nursing, and competed home studies from Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. She was awarded the Evangelical Teacher Training Certificate.
Mid and Russ were married in the parsonage of Turtle Creek Baptist Church in 1939. They were very active in the BYPU of the church. They went to Columbia Bible College, SC, where Mid worked evenings at Providence Hospital. In the later years, she was a nurse at Nanticoke State Hospital in PA. During World War II she was hostess at the Soldiers' Victory Center adjoining Camp Shanks, NY, where her husband was in the Army. They were associated with the American Sunday School Union. First in Michigan, then in Pennsylvania, where they had 18 rural Sunday Schools under their charge. Mildred's flash cards and visual aids captured the children's attention. She was a faithful parsonage wife at the East Mahoning, Pine Flats, Westover, Newburg, Nanticoke, Cookport, Emlenton and Mount Union Baptist Churches. Upon moving to Indiana in 1974, Mildred was a nurse for the Adult Foster Home Program. She lived in her home with husband Russ for 40 years in Indiana. Later in life she left her adored home to live with her daughter Carol in Westover.
Friends will be received at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 333 Beaver St., Hastings on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at Westover Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m.
Burial at Mt. Union Davis Cemetery, Kittanning, PA
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Westover Baptist Church.
