Barry A. Dunne, 87, Flossmoor, passed away on January 14, 2016, at St. James Franciscan Hospital in Chicago Heights. He was born May 24, 1928 in Chicago, the beloved son of the late Richard and Frances Dunne of Evanston, Illinois; husband of the late Camillea Dunne; devoted father of Barry (Carol), Richard (Catherine), Michael (Nancy) and Kathleen Smith. Cherished grandfather of Alyssa (Jon) Newman, Erin, Courtney (Chris) Eccard, Ryan, Cheryl (Dom) LoFiego, Meaghan, Murphy, Eric Smith, Kevin Smith and Colin Smith. Great-grandfather of Christian and Connor Eccard and Bella and Lily LoFiego. Dear brother of the late David Dunne and grandson of the late Edward F. Dunne, former Mayor of Chicago and Governor of Illinois. Barry graduated from St. George High School in Evanston in 1946. Subsequently, he completed an 18-month tour of duty with the U.S. Army, serving overseas in Korea. Upon discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1952. He remained a loyal University of Michigan fan throughout his lifetime. He worked for the U.S. Reduction Co. (USCO), a recycler of scrap aluminum, for over 25 years. He was a very successful salesman, combining the Irish "gift of gab" with his meticulous record-keeping skills-a one-two punch that served him well. Barry was an independent man who loved his family and his home. He was a devoted father, involved with his children through the years, encouraging them to excel in both academics and athletics. He did his best to attend as many of their athletic events as he could and was always very proud of their accomplishments and successes. With open arms he welcomed each of his children's spouses and was delighted when each of his grandchildren were born. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions to DonorsChoose.Org (Illinois/Chicago projects) are appreciated. A memorial mass will be held Saturday, January 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 2324 W. Chase Ave. Chicago, IL 60645. Interment of ashes will be private at Calvary Cemetery, Evanston, IL. Arrangements entrusted to Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, www.tews-ryanfh.com or 708-798-5300.
