RATTLESNAKE ITEMS
John Cash was born July 3, 1883 and died April 6, 1904, aged twenty years, three months and six days. John Cash was a young man that was beloved by all that knew him. He was free hearted and ready at all times to help any one that called on him. He was always at home with his mother, only when away on busines. He never was inclined to run around of nights like other young men, but always at home with his mother and no one will miss him like her. His place in the home cannot be filled by another, no one in the community will miss him more than will the scribe. The funeral was held at the house Monday at 11 o'clock, conducted by Elder S.K. Fuson, of Parke county; interment at the Masonic Cemetery. He leaves behind to morn their loss, a mother, two brothers and one sister and a host of friends. Let us all drop a tear for the bereaved family and to the memory of John, who we will not see in the walks of life any more.
Crawfordsville Journal, Thursday, April 14, 1904
The first death to occur from the measels in this vicinity, this season was that of John Cash last Saturday at 5 p.m. He was the eldest son of the widow of Braxton Cash, living three miles west of here, and was sick only a short time, pneumonia setting in and soon doing its fatal work. The death is a particularly sad one, as he was the manager of his mother's farm and very much of a home boy affording in that way such a sence of comfort to his widowed mother, John would have been twenty-one years old and possesed in great abundance two sterling qualities- honesty and industry, which go far towards making a noble man. He was also a jovial disposition and well liked among his many young friends. The funeral services were conducted Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the home by Rev. S.K. Fuson of Bloomingdale. Besides his mother he leaves a sister, Emma, and one younger brother, Edward to morn his loss.
Crawfordsville Journal Review, April 13, 1904
We are all sorry to learn of the death of John Cash. A more steady moral and upright young man could not be found. He was just stepping into manhood with all bright prospects of life in his grasp. The stem of youth so tender was so suddenly snapped that we scarce can realize one so good and with such a bright and sunny disposition had to leave us. John Cash was entering his twenty-first birttday. At the age of sixteen his father died, leaving him with a mother, little sister and brother looking to him for support. He stepped out of boyhood ways and with manly confidence put his shoulder to the wheel of life and with its cares and losses victory was his and he became a master. In the garden of his youth he grew not a weed and to know him was to like him. Friends and neighbors without number sang his praises both far and near. The clouds of night gathering in his early morning and cast their shadows long before noon time. While we mourn we fell the world is better by his having lived in it.
