Theresa E. Murray

Theresa E. Murray died on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Manor Care Health Services.

Theresa, one of five children, was born to William and Winifred (Bourke) Carney on July 17, 1933. Theresa was always proud of sharing the same birthday as James Cagney. She attended Philadelphia Catholic schools including St. Rose of Lima Grade School and West Catholic High School for Girls. She was a graduate of St. Agnes School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. Theresa met her husband, "Bill" (William J. Murray) - the love of her life - at a nursing school dance held at St. Agnes; she noticed him because he was the one man who stood up each time a woman walked into the room. They were married at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Philadelphia on March 2, 1957, and settled in Sherwood Park II, south of Wilmington, Delaware, where they raised three children. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years and subsequently worked as a Registered Nurse at Goldey-Beacom College, and later, at the Brandywine Convalescent Center.

Theresa is survived by her three children: Michael S. Murray, OSFS; Kathleen Murray-Boyda and her husband, David; and William P. Murray and his wife, Valerie. She also leaves five wonderful grandchildren: James Boyda, Jack Boyda, Sean Murray, Lauren Murray and Colleen Murray. Theresa enjoyed traveling to Ireland to her parents' home village of Aughagower, Westport, County Mayo, and took great delight in visiting with her many cousins there, being proud of her family and of her Irish ancestry.

A (private) Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Light Chapel at Childs, MD on Wednesday, June 20 at 11:30AM, with interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

The family suggests making donations in her memory to the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, 1120 Blue Ball Road, Childs, Maryland 21916.
