Cyrus was married three times. Family legend says he had a "roving eye." His first wife was Eliza Jane Buterbaugh (daughter of George Buterbaugh & Delilah Langham) b.8/16/1850. They married in 1870 in Tennessee. Eliza Jane, aka Jennie, divorced him in 1887 for desertion. (He had"married" his second wife, Edith, in 1883.) Their children were:
Julia Etta, married Earl Benfer
William Henry, married Edith ReesCharles Truman, a missionary, buried in Guatamala, married Carrie Smith

Cyrus's second wife was Cynthia Edith Montgomery (daughter of Jehu Montgomery and Nancy Spencer). They married in 1883. Their children:

The 1870 census shows Cyrus living with his parents, sister Jane, andbrother Samuel in Coffee County, Tennessee. The value of his father'sreal estate is given as $2000 and personal estate is $800 -- the family was one of the richest in the area. In 1880, Cyrus is back in Pennsylvania, living with wife Eliza Jane and their 5 children. He's working as a shoe maker. I haven't found Cyrus in the 1890 or 1900 censuses, although I do know that in 1900 Cyrus and Lillian were in Chicago - that's where Zella was born. The 1900 census does show that his daughters Louise and Nora were also in Chicago at that time. They were livingtogether in a rooming house and working as 'stitchers' in a factory. The 1910 census gives Cyrus's marital status as 'divorced' and he's living without family in Chicago; but the 1920 census shows him as married and living in Pennsylvania with Lillian, Nellie, and Zella.
