Thomas Richard Burke, 80, of Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at City Hospital.

Born June 13, 1930, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Charles Robert and Edna Lamberson Burke.

Mr. Burke retired as chief master sergeant, with over 42 years of service with the WV Air National Guard.

He was a lifetime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 778, where he served three times as an exalted ruler and was a district deputy, chairman of the Veterans Service Committee, as well as other offices state and local. He was also a member of the Masonic Equality Lodge No. 44, A. F. and A.M.

Mr. Burke volunteered with CCAP and Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Emery Burke; one son, Thomas R. Burke Jr., and wife Lisa, of Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren, Brandon, Taylor and Colin Burke; and one brother, Donald K. Burke, of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Burke and an infant brother; and one sister, Evelyn Mae Burke.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Mooney officiating. Interment with military graveside services to be held at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Elks Lodge conducting a memorial service at 7 p.m.
