Mr. RUSSELL EMMETT LITTEN, 85, of 24 N. Virginia Ave., Brunswick, a prominent retired Brunswick businessman, died Friday, June 24, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Catherine Brown Litten. Born Nov. 17, 1897 in Lantz Mills, Va., he was a son of the late William A. and Lucy Coffman Litten.
Along with his brother, the late William A. Litten, he established the Litten Chevrolet Sales which became the Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealership in 1933. Together they developed what became Brunswick's largest retail enterprise. Prior to his retirement in 1971, he was the proprietor of Litten Chevrolet Sales and the L&L Motor Lines. Earlier he had worked for the B&O Railroad from which he retired as an engineer.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brunswick, Brunswick Lodge 191, AF&A Masons, Frederick Lodge of Perfection, Baltimore Consistory, Ali Ghan Shrine Club of Cumberland, Brunswick Chapter 97, Order of Eastern Star, Brunswick Moose and Brunswick Eagles Lodges, Baltimore B&O Veterans Association, Brotherhood of Railway Locomotive, Firemen and Engineers, and a social member of Steadman-Keenan Post 96, American Legion of Brunswick. Before retiring he was an active member of the Frederick Elks Lodge, the Silver Bit Riding Club, and the Brunswick Lions Club.
Surviving besides his wife are one sister, Mrs. Walter Pence, Edinburg, Va.
Services were held at the John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick; interment was in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick. Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home.
