Gerald H. Condit, 94, of Washington, died Sunday, September 20, 2015, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born March 4, 1921, in Amity, a son of the late Charles C. and Goldie Swart Condit.

Mr. Condit attended Amity Grade School and was a 1938 graduate of Trinity High School. Most of his early life was spent in the Amity and Ten Mile areas. He moved to DuBois in March 1980, before returning to Washington in 1995.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served 39 months with the U.S. Navy as a flight engineer, aerial gunner and crew chief with Patrol Bombing Squadron 153 in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Navy Air Medal for meritorious service in combat. He also received the Pacific Theater, Good Conduct and Victory Medals, plus Aerial Gunner Wings with three stars and American Theater Ribbon.

Mr. Condit was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church of Washington and was a life member of Amwell Township Volunteer Fire Department, having served as treasurer for 33 consecutive years. He also was a charter member of Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club, where he was treasurer for several years. He was a charter member of Lone Pine Deer Club in Emporium, Cameron County, where he hunted and fished for many years.

He was a batch and furnace supervisor for Brockway Glass Co. at Plant 11 in Washington for 15 years, until that plant closed in late 1979. He was then transferred to production staff at Brockway as a furnace engineer, until his retirement in 1986, after 44 years of service Hazel Atlas, Continental Can and Brockway Glass companies.

On June 28, 1963, he married Bernice Briggs Gibson, who died April 2, 2014.

Surviving are five children, Lisa M. (Glen) Arthur of Amity, Jane (Thomas) Piatt of Washington, Wayne L. Gibson of Elizabeth City, N.C., Linda K. Mankey of Washington and Gary (Kathy) Gibson of Washington; seven grandchildren, Jacob Arthur, Dana Holmes, Robert Dennis, Denise (Jason) Rhoades, Carrie Wheeler, Nicole (Doug) King and Melissa Gibson; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are a brother, Leland Condit, and three sisters, Lola Condit, Opal Swart Jones and Eleanor Condit Linton.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, in Faith United Presbyterian Church, Washington, with the Rev. Jason Hefner, Pastor Linda Mankey and Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will be private in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Donnell House, c/o Washington Health Systems Hospice Care, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.

Bernice Marie Condit, 89, of Washington, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington, following a short illness.She was born June 10, 1924, in Washington, a daughter of Lester Briggs and Opal Kelley Briggs.Mrs. Condit moved to Lone Pine at the age of 1 and attended Lone Pine School for eight grades and graduated from Trinity High School in 1942.She was a kind, compassionate person, who always believed in paying it forward to those in need.Mrs. Condit was a tax consultant for H&R Block for 25 years and worked at Woolworth's during the war.She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. She became an ordained elder in 1960 and served on the Session at Pleasant Hill, Dubois and Faith Presbyterian churches. Mrs. Condit also was a commissioner to the General Assembly twice as well as twice to Synod of Trinity. She served as church trustee, elder, treasurer, deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth adviser, moderator of Presbyterian Women, various committees of the Presbytery and on the coordinating team of Presbyterian Women.She was active in Amity School PTA, worked as a clerk and then Judge of Election on Amwell Township Election Board and was president of Amwell Township Fireman's Auxiliary for several years. Mrs. Condit was a volunteer at Washington Hospital and the Women's Center, Family Hospice Volunteer and a member of the Washington Hospital Auxiliary, Presbyterian Senior Care Auxiliary and past regent of Dubois Chapter Daughters of the American Republic and present member of National Pike Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.On June 28, 1963, she married Gerald Harding Condit. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last June.Also surviving are two sons, Wayne L. "Hoot" Gibson of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Gary A. (Kathy) Gibson of Washington; three daughters, Jane Ann (Tom) Piatt of Washington, Linda Mankey of Washington and Lisa (Glen) Arthur of Amity; two sisters, Virginia Patten and Norma Bayne, both of Washington; seven grandchildren, Dana Holmes, Denise (Jason) Rhoades, Robert Dennis, Carrie Wheeler, Melissa (Steve) Forte, Nicole (Doug) King and Jacob Arthur; and seven great-grandchildren, Kayla and Jessica Holmes, Luke and Ethan Dennis, Cheyenne Rhoades, Akira Wheeler and Melia King.Deceased are her first husband, Lawrence W. Gibson, who died in the Marianna Mine accident of 1952; two brothers, Kenneth Lloyd Briggs and Paul Briggs; a sister, Elda Graham, and a son-in-law, Reed Mankey.Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G.
