"Mr. Job Harvey Ridgeway, the projector of the Ridgeway refrigerating system for preventing the destruction of perishable provisions, died at his residence, North Twenty-second street, on Sunday. He was born in Salem, N. J., in 1829, but at the close of the war removed to this city. Professor Baird. of the United States Fish Commission, is said to have adopted his system, as also have several of the railroad companies. The plan involves a thick layer of ice at the top of a car, the drip being carried away in a series of troughs, and a cool air maintained throughout the compartment in which the provisions are stored.
Mr. Ridgeway was a member of the Society of Friends and was highly respected"
