Death Claims Noted Artist

Anthony Waddy Street, 73, known to New York City, Chicago and Philadelphia legitimate theaters as a scenic artist of national reputation, died Saturday at 7 p.m. in a New York City hospital following a prolonged illness, according to word received by a brother and sister, Charles E. Street and Mrs. Charles N. Fehr of Salt Lake City.
A former Park City resident, Mr. Street rose from his work as a scenic painter of the first production of the Park City opera house in 1873 to painter of elaborate sets used in the recent Follies Bergere review in New York's famed French Casino.
A son of Judge John L. and Eliza Street, early Park City pioneers, he was born in October, 1863 (sic) in Helena, Mont.(sic), moving to the mining town early in his youth.
When about 23 years of age, he moved east to follow his profession in metropolitan theaters. He soon became well known as a painter and was engaged to do sets for many large productions of the past half century. He had lived in New York City the past 30 years.
Surviving, besides his brother and sister here, are his widow, Mrs. Marie Street, and a daughter, Mary Street, New York City, and another sister in California, Anna M. Street.
The body will be brought to Salt Lake City for burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Time and place of services were not decided Sunday.
