Obituary: Elizabeth Conger Bradley, 94
Betty Bradley, 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully Oct. 19 in Brookfield, Wisconsin.
Born Elizabeth Jean Conger to Howard Dale Conger and Lucille (Luehr) Conger in 1921 in Nebraska, she grew up in Wauwatosa. Betty graduated from Wauwatosa High School, continuing her education in home economics at Mount Mary College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In September 1942 at Trinity Church, she married Donald Custer Bradley, son of Harry Elwood Bradley and Beatrice (Bruce) Bradley of Wauwatosa. They moved to Madison where Don graduated from the UW in 1943 and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army.
A devoted wife, Betty followed Don to many U.S. Army posts before and after his service in Europe in 1944-1945 during World War II and to his career locations with the Wisconsin Telephone Company.
Betty was a volunteer for Girl Scouts, United Way, St. John's Home Auxiliary, and women's guilds of Episcopal churches the family attended. She was president of Twentieth Century Topic Club and treasurer of Elmbrook Investment Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf, cooking, entertaining, gardening, tailoring clothes, doing needlework and good times with her family.
She communicated with Conger family historians, discovering her ancestor John Belconger (later Conger) arrived from England in 1665. Other ancestors include seven Mayflower passengers and early settlers of New Holstein, Wisconsin.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Robert William Conger Sr., and her husband. Survivor includes her daughters Barbara (Richard) Petura of Pullman, WA, and Elizabeth (Peter) Stillmank of Brookfield; two grandchildren, Bradley (Erin) Stillmank of Green Bay and Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Richardson of West Bend; great-grandchildren Thomas, Edwin and Elizabeth Richardson and Michael and Hannah Stillmank; and nephews and cousins.
