Violet R. Boggs, age 89, of Morgantown, passed away Friday (Oct. 23, 2009) at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born June 16, 1920, in Washington County, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Tharp Kelley.Violet was a homemaker and a member of the Laurel Point United Methodist Church. When raising her children, Violet was an active member of the G.W. Phillips School PTA and was active in the 4-H Club. She loved raising a garden, canning, feeding the wildlife and providing homes for her many bird friends.Violet is survived by two daughters, Nellie Zakel and husband Jim of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Phyllis Nellies of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Violet "Cricket" Walker, Charles Baliker, Robert Baliker, William Baliker, Matthew Boggs and Daniel Boggs; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Violet was also survived by a special nephew and caregiver, Daniel Stewart, whom she referred to as her "right-hand man." Together they shared a passion for Mountaineer football and basketball and decorating for the holidays.Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew O. Boggs in 1986, one son, Charles Edward Boggs; two sisters, Phyllis and Michele "Mick"; and four brothers, William, Donald, Bud and Robert; and one granddaughter, Pamela Resick.Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery.
