Kenneth L. McElroy Sr., 83, of Phillipsburg, NJ passed away on April 7, 2010, in his home. Born: on July 22, 1926 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was a son of the late Alfred McElroy and Viola Ent McElroy. Personal: He retired from Painters Local Union #480 of North Plainfield, NJ. During World War II he served in the Navy aboard the Battleship Arkansas BB 33 and LST's 479 and 26. He was awarded the American Theatre Medal, European Theatre Medal with 2 battle stars, the Asiatic Theatre Medal with 2 battle stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Victory Medal, Warren County Distinguished Military Service Medal. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and his hobby was wood crafts. Memberships: He was a life member of the VFW post #7857 of Milford, NJ, American Legion Post #8427in Phillipsburg and was a member of the National Rifle Assoc. Survivors: He is survived by his loving wife Elinora Otto McElroy; a son, Kenneth McElroy Jr. and his wife Elaine of Easton, PA; a daughter, Debra and her companion Alan of Easton, PA; four grandchildren, Wendi, Kenneth III, Michelle and Brian; great-grandchildren, Billy, Jonathan, Brianna, Dominic and Sophia; one great-great- granddaughter, Gracie; three step-daughters, Sue Shisler and her husband Bill, Linda Esposito, and Cathy Frey and her husband Dave; also surviving are a brother, Robert; and sister, Bertha; step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren survive. Mr. McElroy's first wife Elizabeth Bogden McElroy died in 1985. He was also predeceased by sisters Anna Mae, Beatrice, Madeline and two half brothers Clarence Stout and Alfred Bowers. Services: Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 10th at 10 a.m. at the Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., Phillipsburg, NJ. Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Phillipsburg. Viewing hours will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials: Memorial Donations may be made to: Karen Ann Quinlan Memorial Foundation, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, NJ 07860.
