Harold Haughton Best of 621 Parcel Street, New Monterey, died early last evening in a local hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Best was born in Toledo, Ohio and lived in that city until 1945 when he moved to the Peninsula, following his retirement. He and his wife Lola were married in Monterey Feb. 14, 1948. In addition to his wife he leaves a daughter, Miss Ida Frances Best of Monterey; a granddaughter, Mrs. Charlotte Walker of Gibsonberg, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Elva Knisley and Mrs. Althea Thompson of Monterey and Miss Mabel Best of Glendale; and a brother Alfred Best of Toledo, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday in the Paul Mortuary. The Rev. Tod B. Sperling will officiate, burial will take place in Cemeterio El Encinal, Monterey. (Monterey City Cemetery. Monterey Peninsula Herald, August 2, 1952 & Aug 4,1952.

Lola Alberta Best, wife of the late George (should be Harold) Best, whose death occurred last Friday, died early this morning at her home, 621 Parcel Street, new Monterey. Mrs. Best had been in failing health over a long period. She was 73 years of age, born in Missouri. She made her home for many years in Fresno before coming to the Peninsula in 1927. After living first in Seaside, she moved to Monterey. Her Marriage to George (Harold) Be[s]t took place Feb. 14, 1948. Mrs. Best was a member of Monterey Chapter 239 Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem and the First Presbyterian Church. Both she and Mr. Best were members of the Monterey History and Art Association. She leaves two sons, Drury Elder of Burlingame and George W. Elder of San Diego; two daughters, Mrs. Rosalie Ross of Reno and Mrs. Nancy Richard of San Jose; a step daughter, Miss Ida Frances Best of Monterey; a brother, Roland Stump of Porterville; a sister, Mrs. Lettie Little of San Jose; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Best were postponed and a double service will be held Thursday at the Paul Mortuary. The Rev. Tod B. Sperling will officiate at the service for Mr. Best; the Monterey Chapter. O.E.S. will conduct rites for Mrs. Best. Burial will follow in the Cemeterio El Encinal, Monterey. (Monterey City Cemetery)
