Mary Jane Rogers was born in Rutland Township, Barry County, to parents Daniel Elmer Rogers and Emeliza J. "Eliza" (Jenner) Rogers.

Mary became the third wife of Ross Wolverton Benedict on 16 Dec 1919 in Lowell, Kent County, Michigan. They resided in Ionia, Ionia County, Michigan, where Ross farmed in Berlin Township and also owned an auto dealership. They retired to Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida, in the 1950s where Ross died.

Mary spent her last years in Ionia, Michigan, in an apartment above the building Ross had built at 415 W Main Street to house his auto dealership. In recent years that building had housed an A&P grocery, Arden Corp., and an antique mall. It now features a music store. Mary and Ross had no children. They are buried together in Balcom Cemetery.
